Santa Clara, CA – February 2, 2009 - Signal Integrity
Software, Inc. (SiSoft™) and Physware, Inc. (Physware™) announced they will
demonstrate how Physware’s PhysWAVE™ and SiSoft’s Quantum Channel Designer™ can
be used together in a multi-gigabit serial link design and analysis flow. The
two companies will demonstrate a flow that lets designers quickly evaluate
tradeoffs in their passive channel design against different SerDes IP
equalization strategies.
In the demonstration to be shown at DesignCon 2009, PhysWAVE
was used to create parameterized models for different via design alternatives.
PhysWAVE swept-parameter analysis was used to automatically create models for
120 possible combinations of differential via entry and exit layers, antipad and
backdrilling options. Quantum Channel Designer reads in 120 S-parameter models
and adds them to its library within seconds, then allows designers to
interactively evaluate the performance of different via options and SerDes
equalization configurations on overall link behavior.
“Effective high speed serial link design requires evaluation
of different channel design alternatives and their impact on link performance”
noted Feng Ling, Physware’s VP of Engineering. “Via design is an area of
intense study because there is always a tradeoff between minimizing the
discontinuity a via imposes on the signal and other considerations, such as
maintaining copper area in the planes under complex IC’s. PhysWAVE’s high
speed, accurate performance and inherent scalability make it ideally suited to
rapidly and automatically creating a large collection of via models that can be
evaluated in the context of the overall channel using a tool that can
efficiently work with large data sets, such as Quantum Channel Designer.”, he
added.
“In the past, designers have been unable to run enough
simulation to validate their combined channel / SerDes design”, said Barry Katz,
President and CTO of SiSoft. “As a result, most designers have had to focus on
their passive channel design alone. Quantum Channel Designer uses high
performance IBIS-AMI models that allow designers to analyze the combined
behavior of their channel and SerDes IP. Designers can finally run enough
simulation to make tradeoffs between their passive channel design and SerDes IP
configuration. Quantum Channel Designer can evaluate hundreds of different
channel design configurations (via design, connector pinout, package model, PCB
trace and SerDes IP setting) within minutes, extracting key design metrics like
insertion loss, eye height and projected Bit-Error-Rate (BER). Using
Quantum Channel Designer together with a high performance, high accuracy 3-D
full-wave field solver such as PhysWAVE gives designers a level of performance
and flexibility they have never had before.”
SiSoft and Physware
representatives will be demonstrating Quantum Channel Designer™ and PhysWAVE™ on
the show floor at DesignCon in Santa Clara. Exhibition hours are from 12:30PM
to 6:30PM on both Tuesday and Wednesday, February 3-4. If you are unable to
attend DesignCon 2009 and would like additional information, please email

About SiSoft™
SiSoft™ is the leading provider of integrated signal integrity and timing
solutions for high-speed digital system design. SiSoft's latest product,
Quantum Channel Designer™ (QCD), is a dedicated, system-level design and
analysis environment for serial links up to 20 Gbps. QCD incorporates the latest
frequency-domain, time-domain and statistical techniques to simulate the
combined behavior of the passive channel and SerDes IP. Designers capture
designs graphically, and then experiment with different physical layout and
equalization strategies to predict how design tradeoffs affect operating margins
and link Bit Error Rate (BER). Standards-based (IBIS-AMI) SerDes IP models
provide the accuracy and performance required to meet the needs of serial link
design.
SiSoft’s
Quantum-SI™ products allow users to rapidly determine interface operating
margins and achieve High-Speed Timing Closure™, providing unprecedented accuracy
in predicting system-level noise and timing margins. Quantum-SI Interface
Analysis Kits are pre-configured analysis setups for popular interface
standards, such as DDR2 and DDR3, which encapsulate both interface architectures
and design requirements to accelerate the high-speed design process.
SiSoft’s
consulting services organization uses Quantum Channel Designer and
Quantum-SI tools to provide advanced high-speed consulting services including
IBIS model development, package design/analysis and system-level interconnect
analysis -- ensuring that SiSoft’s signal integrity tools remain at the
forefront of high-speed design.
